Effect of high-intensity laser on upper trapezius myofascial pain syndrome

چکیده

Aim of the study: As high intensity laser therapy (HILT) is capable reaching and stimulating deeper larger tissues than traditional physiotherapy modalities, so we studied its influence on cervical myofascial pain. Subject methods: 50 patients with chronic upper trapezius muscle trigger points (MTrPs) within age range 20 to 40 years old were assigned into group A that received treatment only (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), ultrasound massage (US), stretch exercise), while B HILT treatment. Outcome measures included pain severity via visual analogue scale (VAS), pressure threshold (PPT) by algometer, neck functional activities disability index (NDI) motion CROM apparatus. Results: both groups showed significant improvement in posttreatment outcome measures, but (group B) a more control A) p-value >0.001. Conclusion: supportive physical modality may provide preferable results for MTrP patient.
